چکیده

immunosuppression, other factors including EpsteinBarr virus infection, chronic antigen stimulation, and proto-oncogenes, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of the different clinical and histopathological manifestations of AIDS related non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, whereas human herpes virus type 8 may be an infectious cofactor which is required for all forms of Kaposi’s sarcoma. Our data indicate that patients cease to be at risk of Kaposi’s sarcoma once immune function has been improved by combination therapy. Conversely, patients with a history of severe immunodeficiency continue to be at risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, despite antiretroviral combination therapy. Although the initiation of carcinogenesis requires an immunodeficient state, the factors promoting the development of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma further along the causal chain do not seem to be related to immune function or are related to aspects not affected by antiretroviral combination therapy. Because of the large number of susceptible patients with a history of severe immunodeficiency, the fall in the incidence of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma will probably lag behind that observed for other opportunistic diseases. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma will thus remain a relatively common complication among patients treated with antiretroviral combination therapy.

WITHDRAWN: Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors in normotensive diabetic patients with microalbuminuria.

BACKGROUND Renal disease is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus. OBJECTIVES To examine whether the progression of early diabetic renal disease to end-stage renal failure may be slowed by the use of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors for reasons other than their antihypertensive properties, so that they have value in the treatment of normotensive diabetics with microalbuminuria. ...

Aloe vera Leaf Gel in Treatment of Advanced Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Needing Insulin Therapy: A Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Background: Advanced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) needing insulin therapy is a common disease. Previous studies indicate that aloe (Aloe vera L.) leaf gel may positively affect the blood glucose and lipid levels in patients with advanced T2DM needing insulin.  Objective: Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of aloe leaf gel in the treatment of type 2 diabetic patients resistant to ...

EVALU ATION OF INSULIN-SUL FONYLUREA COMBINATION V ERSIJS INSULIN AL ONE IN THE T REATMENT OF NON-INSULIN D EPENDENT DIABETES MELLITU S (NID DM)

Lowering the glucose level in diabetic patients reduces the risk of many consequences which are usually reported in these patients. Non-insulin dependent (type II) diabetes which cannot be controlled with sulfonylureas alone can be controlled with a combination of sulfonylurea and insulin. In an open randomized trial 58 patients were divided into three groups. The fIrst group received only ...

Comparative Efficacy and Safety of Antihypertensive Agents for Adult Diabetic Patients with Microalbuminuric Kidney Disease: A Network Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND Antihypertensive treatment mitigates the progression of chronic kidney disease. Here, we comparatively assessed the effects of antihypertensive agents in normotensive and hypertensive diabetic patients with microalbuminuric kidney disease. METHODS MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (R...
